Well, maybe I will surprise you, but I do!

I don’t think we necessarily saw them knocking at our door, but think about it: The solar system has about 8 planets in it. Each star in the Milky Way is a different solar system, and also have some planets orbiting around it. There are about 100 billion stars in the Milky Way. The Milky Way, however, is not the only galaxy out there! We can see around us about 100 to 200 billions of GALAXIES!

That potentially means that there are about 80 thousand billions of billions of planets around us! I know humans are quite exceptional beings, but I don’t think the Earth is the only planet amongst all these planets that could host life as we know it. So I’m quite certain that there must be several planets on which life could develop out there, and that there is life at many places. However, it may not be life like we think of it, as the soil and air composition of these planets may different than the Earth. Also bigger planets have more gravity, smaller planets have less, some are closer to a star so may be hotter, all these factors affect the kind of life that can develop on a planet, so alien may be super weird!

Be careful of fake news though, it’s not because aliens may exist somewhere far away that any strange thing one sees in the sky has to be an alien! It could be, but one has to look for evidence first 😉

If you are interested in this topic, the search for a livable planet is an extremely hot topic in science. Some telescopes are especially designed to look for this, and if you go into science and join the research, you may be lucky enough to see big discoveries during your lifetime! Space exploration is a lot of fun I think…

I hope this answers your question well! Feel free to ask more!

Yes! We think there are about 200 billion galaxies in the universe, and each galaxy contains around 200 billion stars!
Each star probably has a planet so that is 200 billion x 200 billion x 1 planets in the universe which equals…
      1,000,000,000,000,000,000 exoplanets in the Universe!!

Surely at least one of them has life?
