I studied lots of different areas of Physics during my undergraduate degree! The first two-three years are for giving everyone the best foundation in as many topics as possible for you to then decide what to specialise in. During this time, I studied things like mechanics, electromagnetism, special relativity, general relativity, atomic physics, condensed matter physics, quantum physics, fluid dynamics (and many more!) and also a lot of maths.

In the 4th year we could specialise and I studied condensed matter physics and atmospheric physics, and it was atmospheric physics that I chose to take further in my 4th year research project and then also as a PhD student.

My research was focused on the impact large explosive volcanic eruptions have on our weather and climate due to the effects the emitted gasses have on our atmosphere.
