When I was at school I really liked maths, because unlike history, literature, languages, or even chemistry or biology, there was not a lot of memory required, so I just could find out answers using logic.

Then later on (when I was in University) I realised that physics was so cool, and that it actually had a lot of maths in it, although you don’t get to realise it so much at school.

Nowadays, I am a physicist, but I use maths every day, really. I constantly solve equations, write formulas on my blackboard, program simulations using a lot of complicated formulas… maths are really everywhere.

Interestingly, at school and as a kid, I was also very good at art, because I loved drawing, painting. And I may surprise you, but this also helps me a lot in my work because when I give presentations, I draw very nice diagrams and figures for people to understand better what I’m talking about, and that helps a lot!

All the skills you have will help you one day, you just have to wait and find the right moment to express these skills. Sometimes it feels frustrating because you have a skill really don’t see how it could be useful in the future, but if you trust yourself and time you will see that skills are never useless. However, you should also fight at school to use these skills to help you with your studies. Never pick a class that you know you don’t like and that you don’t feel excited about. Go for something that makes you feel excited and curious!

I hope I answered your question well enough! Feel free to ask more, and don’t forget…

… to vote for your favorite scientist 😉

My favourite subjects at school as maths and art, which both help me in astronomy.
There is a lot of maths in physics, so it’s important to have a good understanding of both. Science is extremely creative, which I lot of people don’t realise, so being good at art and music is also very important! In order to make new discoveries in science, you need to think creatively and outside the box!
