About Me:
I’m an Engineering Manager now, but graduated and started working as a Physicist. I’m living in Cambridge with my wife, Andrea and 2 kids (Linett 16, Daniel 13). We moved to the UK in 2017 from Hungary. I like doing many kind of sports in my free time.

I am Hungarian, coming from a small city in the south, moved to Budapest for University and then stayed there.
My favourite subject in school was physics, so I became a physicist, then started working in the industry as an engineer, later became a project manager and then in 2011 an Engineering Manager.
As a scientist I worked as an experimental physicist with lasers, as an engineer and project manager I was part of a team developing medical X-ray devices.
In the past 10+ years, I was leading different type of engineers: Software Engineers, Power Electronics Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Test Engineers.
I did competitive athletics when I was young and still love (any kind of) sports, I mostly do running, cycling and swimming.

My Typical Day:
I wake up at 6:30, do breakfast for the family, drink coffee, go for a run, then get ready for work. I arrive to the office at 9:30 (by bike), read and answer my emails. I have lunch with my colleagues around noon and after I spend my time usually on meetings, discussing about people’s work. I prepare for the next day from 5-6PM and head home after 6.

A manager’s job is to guide their team, tell them what to work on, how to get organised, make decisions if they are in disagreement and help them if they are stuck.
I also need to think about strategy (what product to develop in the future) and discuss with other managers how to prepare for the new challenges: how many engineers we need, what skills are necessary, etc…
Sometimes I need to hire engineers, this is done by asking them questions and deciding if they are smart enough for the job and could fit culturally in the team (this is called interview).
Once in a while I need to report to my managers on the progress of my team, will they be ready on time with the new product, do I need any help from another team or can I offer my team’s support.

What I'd do with the prize money:
I’m not sure… I like doing STEM activity to schools, probably would develop a “STEM in a box”, a toolbox with fun things I could bring with myself for these activities.
-
Education:
I went to school in Hungary.
The Hungarian education system is a bit different from the English, the primary school is 8 years (from 7 to 14 years old), then 4 years secondary school, at the end we do a GCSC like exam and then go to University if we want.
My favourite subjects were maths and physics, so I went to study Physics in a University.
